Hello there crafty friend!
It's the first Saturday of the month and you know what that means... it's time for the Friends of Unity Blog Hop!! I look forward to these hops so much each month. I hope you do too!
Our cue this month is Sympathy... a tough card to make at times. Definitely a card that we can't always be prepared for. With this in mind, I created 3 quick cards to share with you all.
My first card uses a cute Itty Bitty stamp called Floral Scroll that pairs up really nicely with just about any patterned paper to make a quick card. I cut my patterned paper to 4 x 5-1/4" and layered it on a piece of card stock measuring 3-15/16 x 5-3/16". I then wrapped some twine around the panel and adhered it to a white card base.
I set the card base aside and found an ink that would coordinate with the color in the paper... I settled on Crumb Cake. I stamped the floral scroll image and then stamped the sentiment. I die cut the stamped image with a circle die and then popped it up on the card. A very quick card that could be made with any patterned paper in your stash.
My second card is very CAS... Clean and Simple... I did a little watercolor washing in the center of a 4-1/8 x 5-3/8" piece of watercolor paper with Milled Lavender Distress Oxide ink. I heat set the background with my heat tool and then stamped the pretty flowers from the July 2020 Sentiment kit called Aging Gorgeously with VersaFine Onyx Black ink.
I set that panel aside and grabbed a strip of Vellum card stock. I stamped the With Sympathy sentiment from the September 2017 Sentiment kit called Abundant Blessings with VersaFine Onyx Black ink and then heat embossed some fine black embossing powder being careful not to warp the Vellum card stock. I adhered the sentiment to the watercolored panel with PLUS vellum tape and then wrapped it around the back and secured it with Tombow Mono Permanent Adhesive. I then adhered the panel to a white card base. I really like how this one turned out and the background color could easily be changed up to suit the recipient.
My last card is actually a CASE... Copy And Share Everything... of a card that I made last year. You can check that one out here... Don't Give Up Sympathy card. I kept the Kraft and black combo, but decided to do a slimline card. I used my new Gina Marie Designs slimline dies to die cut my panels.
I stamped the beautiful floral from the Abundant Blessings sentiment kit with VersaFine Onyx Black ink and splattered some black acrylic paint on the panel. I set that aside to dry and stamped the sentiment on a scrap of Kraft card stock. I mat it with some True Black card stock. All that was left was adhering my layers onto my Kraft slimline card base measuring 3-1/2 x 8-1/2". Another quick card!
Here's another look at all three of my cards together. I was able to make all of these in an afternoon... I hope these ideas are a help for when you are struggling to make that difficult sympathy card.
Now... it's time to announce the winner from my giveaway last month and the winner is...

Your cards are beautiful and I like that the simplicity minimizes the amount of time to make them. I find that sympathy cards are not something I stock up on so I end up needing to make them as needed.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful but really love the CASE card

Beautiful Sympathy cards! They are never really fun to make. But I think that they are very special to receive knowing that they were handmade.
ReplyDeleteYou have created some very special cards - perfect!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love all 3. I put the stamp set from your first card in my cart. The ink does pair perfectly with your DSP! Such simplistic beauty with your 2nd card. I love how you CASED your own card! I never make cards with kraft paper, but your card makes me want to ASAP. ♥️
ReplyDeleteBeautifully made. I love the simple.
ReplyDeleteI love the simple elegance of these. And that you don't have to color to make them such. All three are beautiful. So happy, grateful & excited to be your winner from last month - I'll send you an email.
ReplyDeleteThese are all so beautiful
ReplyDeleteLove them all!! Very CAS as it should be... wonderful cards!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Becca on winning :)
All of your cards are just beautiful and I love the CAS style that runs through the whole set. Making all three in one session is a great idea, especially when they are all unique. I never have a sympathy card on hand when I need one.
ReplyDeleteI love every one of these Crystal!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards my friend! I love that simple stamp on patterned paper in your first card. And a simple splash of color on your 2nd card is soft and pretty. And great minds think alike...I too LOVE the Abundant Blessings kit. And your 3rd card on kraft in a slimline is so beautiful. And I've got to stamp on kraft more. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I think my favorite is the first card with the neutral tones and sweet sentiment and twine! I haven't had to make many sympathy cards so far, thank goodness, but I have to remember that simple design when I do need one.
ReplyDeleteCrystal, all three cards are beautiful. I love how you used pattern paper as your background on the first card; makes for a quick and easy card if you're short on time. The wash on the second card is beautiful and I love the black on kraft on your third card; makes for a very elegant card.
ReplyDeleteI really like all 3 cards. I especially like the 2nd card with vellum.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely cards
ReplyDeleteand so inspiring.

All of your cards are beautiful! You are so right... sympathy cards are difficult to make, which is why I like to keep a stash of them. I'm getting low, so thank you for the inspiration to get it built up again.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I particularly love the swooshie one with the flower. I may use that design to have one on hand. Seems I'm always making a sympathy card in a rush. Thanks for the inspiration
ReplyDeleteCrystal, your cards are so beautiful and elegant! I struggle with creating sympathy cards in the moment. And, I don't feel comfortable creating these types of cards ahead of time. So... my creativity fails me when attempting Sympathy cards. :( You've inspired me to create a few base cards and a few sympathy sentiments to keep separately in a box. That way, I don't feel as if I'm creating a Sympathy card for an actual event, but I'm still prepared should the need arise. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThese are all lovely cards Crystal but the black on kraft is my favorite! Thanks for inspiring me!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards! Thanks for sharing such a nice variety to inspire us.
ReplyDeleteYour card making always amazes me! Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese are very pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty. I love the scroll stamp!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful variety of sympathy cards.
